Classic iPod is the most iconic of the iPod lineup which is probably why the iPod Video has remained fairly unchanged over the years. You just can't improve on an already great design. The circular touch wheel with simple music controls made the iPod a simple iconic for years to come. I decided to take this iconic product and make a large, 2' X 3', soft sculpture complete with ports and toggle switch.
I wanted the iPod to be pretty true to the original so I paid close attention to detail and made the switch, sync port, and headphone jack to scale. I searched for the screen's typeface and made it to scale to fit the piece.
The only deviance in this piece is the lack of symbols on the wheel. Since I was working with fabric, making the symbols symmetrical and centered was difficult and distracted from the simplicity of the piece.
I was able to find a shiny fabric to use on the back to make it shiny just like the original iPod video. That is personally my favorite because the white on chrome looks very slick.
